What are wood briquettes?
Wood briquettes are created using sawdust or wood chips from saw milling process before being dried out and mechanically pressed together to create different shaped briquettes, ready for burning. These are made from byproducts, meaning that they are an eco-friendly way to burn wood and heat your home compared to using typical firewood logs or other materials. These tend to have more energy and longer burn time than traditional firewood logs, giving you more heating and for longer at a great price.
Which briquettes are best for stoves?
There are different wood briquettes available on the market right now, all with their own positives and negatives when it comes to heating your own home during the cost of living crisis. Smaller stoves require light and smaller briquettes , such as our Ecofire HotBrix Briquettes, which are easy to break down and are hydraulically pressed to create dense and long lasting heat. For bigger stoves, our Ecofire HotRods are a more economic solution, due to their larger shape and slightly longer burn time, these are made almost exclusively out of Oak for maximum heat output for your home. All of our briquette ranges can be shopped from here.
HotBrix vs HotRods?
HotBrix briquettes
Our Ecofire HotBrix briquettes are incredible dense, long and extremely dry, perfect for use in chimneas, open fires and multi-fuel stoves. They are hydraulically pressed means that compared to ordinary firewood, they produce more heat due to the low moisture content and burn for longer. They are approximately 150mm in length, meaning that they are perfect for small stoves and the dryness of the briquettes makes them easy to break up for the burning process as they do expand when in use. The average burning time of these is around 30-40 minutes per briquette, meaning that they are perfect for some afternoon warmth before dying down in time for bed.
These are available in individual boxes of between 10 to 12 briquettes per box, pallets of 48, 72 and 96 boxes or our value large and extra-large bulk bags.

HotRods briquettes
Our Ecofire HotRods briquettes are made almost exclusively out of Oak, with a small amount of larch added in to aid the natural binding process of compressing these briquettes. There are no other chemicals or additives used within the process of making these meaning that they are eco-friendly and burn clear in your home. Because they are mechanically pressed, this makes them very dense and highly calorific, perfect for immediate use. They are best to be left alone when burning to maximise burn time and heat output so that they do not break, else this can make them less effective. These are around 250mm to 300mm in length, over 2 times the length of the RUF briquettes meaning that they are more suited for bigger stoves or they can be broken down, though they are quite dense making this difficult. Their burning time is similar to that of the RUF briquettes though they tend to be more calorific and if left alone, can burn around 40-60 minutes, making them longer and warmer than the RUF.
These too come in individual boxes of between 10 to 12 briquettes per box, pallets of 48, 72 and 96 boxes or our value large and extra-large bulk bags.
